Solo Trip

I made it home for my solo weekend! Between Case breaking his leg and everyone getting sick one right after the other I didn’t know if I would be able to travel until the night before. Getting to OKC was a nightmare and I had some serious doubts as to whether or not I should be coming home. First) One of my planes apparently broke while in air and we had to turn around and head back to the airport. Second) The next plane had a broken door. All I could think about was final destination and how I needed to get home but finally the airport found a functioning plane and I made it to Oklahoma. Third) Finding a working plane was great, however the extra flight was just too much for my already taxed system. I'd been up since 3am, hadn't eaten a proper meal in hours, my pension for motion sickness and the baby violently swimming back and forth in my stomach (he doesn’t like to fly) spelled disaster. I held out as long as I could. But when we hit turbulence on the decent I couldn’t hold it anymore and puked. The best part was my puke bag had a hole in it and I got puke on my jeans! You just can’t make up that kind of fun.

Once I finally made it to OKC the trip was wonderful but way too short (under 48 hours). We went to the Arts Festival and ate fried pickles, fried spinach, beef sliders, strawberry Newport and lemon blueberry crepes. YUM! I missed my facial because of flight problems, but was able to get my hair cut and colored for the first time in 6 months. I went shopping by myself and didn’t look at the clock and we had a birthday dinner for my dad. Its amazing how different an adult conversation can feel when you aren't thinking of a baby. Day 2 I watched a few friends cross the finish line at the OKC memorial marathon, was treated to a great pedi and cruised around the mall eating cheese fries before heading home that afternoon. All in all, the trip was great. I hope my next solo ‘me time trip’ comes sooner than later.

Friday Night Flashback

Last weekend we spent the majority of the afternoon and evening in the ER waiting to get Case’s leg splinted. Apparently that just wasn’t enough hospital fun for our family because this Friday it was my turn to visit the ER. I either caught what Case got from the ER and fought off all week or I picked up some food poisoning from Sonic that I couldn’t shake. After almost 24 hours of not being able to keep even a sip of water down my OB said get to the hospital. Even with the Angle of Death hovering inside my stomach, Cody and I both agreed this trip the hospital was much easier than last week because 1)we managed to beat the Friday night rush hour 2) we got right into a nice room with a tv. 3) we were able to drop Case off at the daycare so we didn’t have to worry about feeding and entertaining a 1 year old for 6 hours in a boring hospital. 2 liters of fluid later and a couple doses of anti-nausea meds they sent me home. Recovery has been s-l-o-w. Thank goodness Cody was home because there is NO way I could have done it without him. Thank you hubby for completely taking over everything while I was down and out.

Lesson for the Day

Lesson for the day. There is a big difference between watching your kids play and actually playing with them. I just spent the last hour sitting in a plastic play house throwing rocks out the window with Case. I know Case had fun and I am quite sure I had more fun than if I would have been just watching. I hope I can remember this lesson to myself, if you’re going to be outside watching anyway, get dirty, it’s more fun.

Having a little outdoor picnic snack in the playhouse.

Hobble Wobble

Case broke his leg. To make matters worse, he broke his leg almost 2 weeks before the we knew it was broken! I’m sure you’re wondering, how in the world could we not of know he was broken! In our defense, Case has been walking, running, dancing, climbing and kicking the entire time. Our little man started limping a couple weeks ago and we began to keep an eye on him. However over time the limp got a bit worse and when he didn’t want me to put his shoe on his left foot I knew something was really wrong. We went to the Dr and even she sent him home and reported nothing was wrong. After watching him fall a couple times we went back to the Dr and demanded some x-rays.

Turns out his fibula, the outer bone on the lower left leg, was broken. I began to cry immediately. My first thought was how much pain has he been in for the past two weeks?! Case has been sleeping terrible lately, waking up every 2-3 hours but Cody and I thought he was just teething! No wonder Tylenol, teething tablets and a bottle wasn’t working. He couldn’t sleep because he was in pain! Oh the guilt, the guilt.

The good news is, after 5 hours in the ER we got his leg splinted for the weekend. We saw the orthopedic specialist on Monday and he said that Case has a toddler break. Apparently little people get these kinds of breaks all the time just because they are toddling around. So I guess I dont have to install the hidden camera system just yet. I stress the word yet.

He has only been walking about 1-1/2 months and we already have a major injury. Now he is sporting a new blue cast and hates taking a bath with a bag on his leg. According to the doc we have 3 weeks of hobbling around and he should be good as new. I think I may have the toughest baby alive for trooping around without a peep with a bum leg. But honestly folks, watch this video of him Easter egg hunting. Does this look like a tyke who has a broken leg?

Easting Disorder

I know I have talked about how this baby has affected my appetite before but I need to talk about it again. Already baby #2 is on a strict eating schedule. This baby must eat every 2-3 hours or I turn into something like the hulk; a crazed monster out of control. When I am at home I can control the urges with proper meals, but when I’m out working or running errands and the hunger urge hits I feel like I have an eating disorder. My pre-pregnancy stash of power bars or peanut butter crackers won’t satiate the appetite. I have to hit the nearest fast food joint, purchase large quantities of high calorie food, sit in the parking lot alone and scarf down the food quicker than most people could get the wrapper off and then feel guilty for what I have just done. This baby is going to be a butter ball with high cholesterol! Lord help me control myself!

Easter 2010

Easter was a fun day at the Gray house. I am always so thankful when the entire family is together at church on Sunday morning and Easter Sunday was extra special.

Case enjoyed an egg hunt after church services and found at least a dozen eggs. We held a second hunt at the house in the afternoon.

He had fun digging into his Easter basket filled with things from Nana, mom, dad, lele and papa’s. We finished the evening off with a great Easter dinner and fresh cherry pie.
The day was made just a bit more special because we had friends visiting from Arizona! Kyrstal and James it was great to see you and hope we get another visit super soon!
Happy Easter everyone.

Help Please!

Help, please, cookie, donut, cracker, shoes, hello, water, cat, car, beeping, all done, sheep, hippo, more, book and hole are just a few of the new words Case is adding to his 50 (+) word vocabulary. Last night Case threw his blanket over the side of his crib and we could hear him yelling ‘help, help, help, help please!” He is our little 19 month boy who cried wolf. So cute!

Case also understands the concept of 2 and counts everything that he can find two of. He comprehends the concept hot, cold and wet and loves to describe such things. Plus he is a quick learner and has already discovered that “please” is a golden word and needs to be used at all times. As we were driving down the road yesterday he finished all the fruit loops in his snack cup. He was saying, “More, more, more” from the back seat. I told him they were all gone. He then said “more please.” Normally that stick would have worked. It’s amazing to hear him finally able to express himself. I just can’t believe how his vocabulary is blowing up. Every day is something new!

Carnivore!

The baby brewing in my belly is a carnivore! I have never eaten so much red meat in all my life, filets from outback, t-bones on the grill, steak sandwiches on toaster bread from sonic, beef tamales and an original sandwich from Schlotzsky’s are just some of the things I have HAD to eat while pregnant. If meat isn’t on the menu, mama ain’t happy.

Today Cody declared that poop and pastrami are the two worst smells to be stuck in a car with. On our way back from Schlotzsky’s (typically I would never eat that) Case was in the backseat needing to be changed and I was up front feeling sick and burping up lunch. Poor guy, we drove with the windows down on the way home. Ahhh, memories and cravings.
