The Verdict Is In

The verdict is in. Our baby boy will officially be named Case Gary Gray. Case is a name Cody came up with and I agreed upon. Gary was my father’s name. All we need is a baby and a birth certificate to make it official.

Baby Shower

The OKC baby shower was wonderful. Whitney did a great job with the invitations and hosting. My mother did an amazing job decorating. Every corner was filled with a treat for the eyes. Receiving blankets were draped everywhere, baby bottles filled with condiments, framed ultrasound pictures for the guest of honor and huge stuffed jungle animals greeting people as they arrived. Mom even carved a watermelon fruit basket to look like a baby stroller complete with orange-faced baby as part of the refreshments. Plus Susan (the master cake maker) did a great and delicious job designing the cake to look just like the baby bedding. I couldn’t have asked for a better party.

The best part was seeing family and friends. I think this gathering had some particularly special moments, because there were a few faces I had not seen in years and years. My little from college whom I haven’t seen in over 5 years came and brought her adorable 9 months old son (who was the hit of the shower). Heather looked amazing: lovely face, great clothes, and one large baby belly (I’m terrified to be 9 months pregnant). Another special guest was Aubrey, a girlfriend who I haven’t seen in over 11 years but spent K-12 grade together. Plus I was able to briefly catch up Jackie and Rose, some of my OKC coworkers. I could go on and on because everyone there is very special to me. I was just thankful to see everyone. The shower was wonderful, but the company is what made the day truly special.

Now I cant wait to get started working on the baby room. My parents have volunteered to come and visit over the 4th of July and participate in a weekend of slave labor as we move the office into the basement and set up the baby room. Thank goodness for family!

Little white bag

Cody and I took trip for two to Washington/Oregon for our anniversary. Our romantic get away started off with me puking on the plane. The combination of the baby kicking, my pension for motion sickness and persistent heartburn/acid reflux due to the pregnancy was just too much for my body to take and I had to use one of those little white bags airplane bags. Plus somewhere along the trip I chipped my tooth.

Other than those small mishaps, the trip to Washington was great. The state was beautiful. We did a lot of scenic drives since I wasn’t in the best condition for biking trails or hiking. We saw gorgeous mountains, waterfalls, rivers, dams and flower gardens. We did the truffle shuffle at the original Goonies house, toured a fishery, ate great seafood and went Salmon fishing. Our fishing trip even proved fruitful. In the last 30 minutes of our 8-hour fishing expedition we ended up catching a nice sized King Salmon (which I reeled into the boat). Now we have enough fresh Salmon for at least 5-6 dinners for two.

I think maybe the best part about the trip was how much my hubby never ceases to amaze me. He is always playing the tough guy role and its nice to be reminded that despite all his talk, he is really a caring person. Our bed and breakfast was wonderful. We had our own cabin and he had the room outfitted with roses (which I had to leave behind), wine (which I couldn’t drink), a hot tub (which I couldn’t get into), chocolate, fruit, cheese, crackers (which I enjoyed). I think in all his zest to produce a romantic 1-year anniversary he forgot I was pregnant, but it’s the thought that counts right? I think so.

We also relaxed on the porch swing overlooking the mountains, played yatzee at night and never once turned on the tv. Plus he stopped diving every time I asked for a break (country people never stop unless its for gas) and made sure the car was full of snacks (just in case the baby got hungry). It was a good anniversary.

We had a great time and I am so glad we got to go, but I was really glad to get back home. The trip was exhausting. Now we are back to real life. Ya know, life stuff like: work, work, work, house cleaning, trying to get the sprinkler system functioning, moving Cody’s office into the basement and baby preparation.

I head to OKC this weekend for the baby shower. I can’t wait to see everyone. Plus I am excited to be able to start working on the baby room once the shower is over. Wow, I have rambled on long enough. Here are some pics from the vacation.

My prayer

This seems to be my prayer for my little boy every night as I go sleep.

I pray that my little boy will be healthy in the mind, heart, body and soul. I pray he will strive to be the best he can be, whatever that may be. And I pray that Cody and I can show him how to be the best he can be, by being the best we can be. Amen.
