Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails

I was a die hard tomboy until around the age of 12 before I turned girly. But still even in my tomboying days I never imagined I would be a mommy to 2 little boys. That’s right, the Chinese calendar was correct (that’s 2 for 2) and we are having a boy.

Whenever I think of moms to multiple boys, I can’t help but think they give off a different vibe. Moms to boys: laugh at fart jokes (I don’t-yuck), don’t mind dirt (I’m a neat freak), are into all kinds of sports and cars (I guess I’ll learn) and always have an ample supply of frozen processed food for snacks (I prefer fruit). I guess I have some learning to do as a mommy since I will be surrounded by little men. Lord help me! On the bright side, Case will have a brother and I hope their bond will be one that will remain solid and last a lifetime. I will save a ton of money by never buying hairbows, make-up and accessories. And if I’m lucky I could miss the entire adolescent drama stage completely (some boys make it out unscathed, girls are almost never drama free).

Here is the up close and personal pic of our newest family member. The ultrasound tech said it was a little early for the 3-d shots, but I wanted them anyway. That's why his little face looks like its made out of biscuit dough, but you get the gist. I think we have made another little Cody clone. Cody is taking over the world one baby at a time!

Mischievous?

Mischievous? I’ll let you be the judge.

Oh The Games We Play

I am really sad to see Dancing with the Stars ending on tv because Case loves it soooooo much. He is adorable when that show is on! He looks at the tv and yells, ‘Dance! Dance! Dance!’ Then he comes over to me, grabs my hands and we proceed to ‘dance’ together with the stars on the show. He even knows what kind of dances to do. If it’s a slow song, he expects to be twirled and spun around. If it’s a fast song we stomp our feet and he sits down on the ground waiting for me to pick him up and fling him into the air. Just some good old family dancing fun. Case is also really getting into certain games. Right now his favorite game is hide and seek. It’s a hoot to watch. First of all he informs me he is leaving the room by saying, ‘bye.’ Then he usually goes into the closet or bathroom and shuts the door. He waits a second or two and then begins to call out for himself, ‘Case, Caaaase!’ That’s my cue. He has hidden long enough and I need to begin looking for him. Once I find him, he says, ‘hello!,’ shakes my hand, says ‘bye’ and the whole game starts over again. Case also like to play name that bodily noise. His favorites are burps and toots. And recently he has been chasing me around the house with his plastic snake hissing at me until I run away scared. I'd forgotten how much fun playing can be! Children are great for the soul.

Mathematical Confusion

Right now I am almost 20 weeks pregnant and according to baby center, my baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel –the length of a banana. If that’s the case, how come I have gained almost 10 lbs?! I will be the first to admit that I've never been a math whiz but how can a 10 ounce baby add 10 lbs? I know the weight gain is all for the good of the baby but it is never easy to see the scale creeping up. It’s all for the baby. It’s all for the baby. I just have to keep telling myself that. It’s all for the baby. Speaking of baby, we find out for sure what the sex is this week! I can't wait to find out. Then we can start some of the fun pregnancy stuff like picking out names, room prep, baby clothes, etc. Whoo-hoo, let the fun begin!

What A Weekend

I just had to write about how wonderful this past weekend has been. Friday I got all my work done and printed early. That means that the daunting task of progress notes and court reports were not hanging over my head all weekend. Saturday the entire family went to Lowes, ran errands and picked up a drink at Sonic while talking about plans for the development of our backyard. Late Saturday afternoon, Cody and I had a date night complete with dinner and a movie. It was just so relaxing I didn’t want to come home!

Sunday started off shaky after I got a flat tire on the way to church but ended up strong. My man came and rescued me on the side of the road and then drove off into the sunrise and fixed my tire. Church was a bust so we moved on to plan B, spending the entire day outside in the yard. The weather was beautiful. Cody mowed and edged the front and back yard while I worked on weeding, sanding furniture for a new coat of paint and watching the wee one. I am so proud of how hard Cody worked on the backyard. It is/was a nightmare. The grass was almost as tall as Case in some places and the entire ½ acre is covered in holes where Dakota tried to dig up gophers last year making the task of mowing that much harder but the end result was worth it. We now have a clean slate to work with. The backyard is our project this year and we have our hands full. This is one area we have ignored long enough and I’m looking forward to a nice backyard. Ya know, watching the sunset behind Pikes Peak, sitting in our comfy chairs enjoying the air, eating outside on the porch, watching Case run around without loosing him in the grass and enjoying a fire in the fire pit without beating back the weeds with a machete or breaking an ankle in a gopher hole.

I don’t think Cody is looking forward to the backyard work but I’m excited. Any time we can do something together I love it. The work is even more fun when I think about how the sweat will benefit the entire family some day. Planning for the future is fun and something I look forward to. I guess the weekend was really nothing special but any day I get to spend so much time by my mans side and as a family is nice.

Cast Off

We are cast free! After 4 weeks of wearing only 1 shoe, Case's broken leg is officially healed and he is out of his cast. Here are some pics from the whole ordeal.

At the ER running up and down the hallway with his broken leg.

Unhappy about the temporary splint.

Look at my little baby cast!

Finally, good as new! Here is a picture of his little cast next to some other household items. It was soooooo little and kind of cute but I am glad my boy is back to normal.

Happy Anniversary!

Happy 3rd Anniversary Cody. Thank you for being the man I love. I hope we have 50 more anniversaries together as wonderful as the past few years together. I love you.

Tongue Twisters

Suddenly I am acutely aware of the amazing similarities in the words: slick, slip, sit and sh*t. Case slips on the slick floor at least 4 to 5 times a day and then has to sit down and rest for a moment narrating the entire time. I swear its not a potty mouth. I swear.

I Did It!

I received the coolest mom award yesterday when I picked up a hot wheel contraption for Case. He loves it. Here he is playing with some of the tricks and feeling pretty proud of himself. P.S. If you can’t understand baby talk, he says, ‘I did it!’

A Little Late but Week 13

I forgot to take a pic once I found out I was pregnant but here is a side shot for week 13. I don't look completely pregnant yet, but if you saw me on the street you would wonder when I started letting myself go.

We went to the OB a couple weeks ago and saw our new baby on the ultrasound again. Seeing a little baby in my belly who looks like a little baby was so nice. I loved it! The tec said it was still a bit early for a final confirmation on the sex, but he was leaning towards our little guy being a boy.

Its amazing how you can see and tell differences between two babies even in the womb. When I was pregnant with Case, everytime we had an ultrasound he was like a deer in a headlight. Case wouldn’t move for anything! But this little booger is a mover and a shaker. He was wiggling, flipping and rolling the entire time. The tec had a hard time getting the measurments he needed because our little rocker and roller was moving around so much. Two different little personalities. Our house will be so full of love and laughter soon. I can't wait.

Mr. Clean

I might be potentially raising an obsessive compulsive child. Currently Case is “obsessed” with cleanliness. He walks around the house pointing out any floor imperfection by either yelling “icky” or “mess.” If there if poop in the cat box, I am immediately informed. If there is a piece of dirt on the floor, he points it out. Even if he walks into a room and his own toys are strewn all about, he will identify the scene as a “mess.” The other day I could barely get off the toilet and turned around to flush before he started screaming “icky, icky!” Apparently he was disturbed that I had defiled the toilet. When eating in the high chair he wants his hands “clean, clean” after every few bites. And if the tray gets too dirty that must be wiped off as well.

I know this is probably just a phase and my little boy will grow into a messy mud loving toddler soon, but until then my house from 2 feet down is being kept white glove perfect because the inspector is always on duty.

Here he is taking a break from inspection duty long enough to enjoy some summer Watermelon with his new summer hair cut.
